Invisalign and SureSmile Clear Aligners in Brampton

Clear aligners straighten your teeth with a series of nearly invisible trays, no metal brackets or wires. Brampton Smiles offers both Invisalign and SureSmile, and Dr. Azher Abbas chooses the system that fits your case, not the one that is easier to sell. You see a 3D preview of your result on screen before you commit, and your consultation is free.

Invisalign or SureSmile: which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. SureSmile is often suggested for shorter courses such as mild crowding and minor relapse. Invisalign is often suggested for bite corrections and rotated canines. We review your 3D plan with you before ordering. Much of the cost is the same regardless of brand, including lab fees, clinician time, scans, refinements and retainers, so switching brands rarely saves much.

What can clear aligners fix?

  • crowded or crooked teeth
  • gaps and spacing
  • mild to moderate overbite, underbite or crossbite
  • teeth that shifted after braces, extractions or trauma

Brampton Smiles is a general and cosmetic practice, not an orthodontic specialty. Severe jaw problems, large rotations or complex bite cases may need fixed braces or surgery, and we refer these to an orthodontist in Peel Region.

Is it right for you?

Most teens and adults with mild to moderate alignment problems are good candidates. You need healthy gums, good hygiene, no major active decay, adult teeth that are fully or nearly fully in, and the commitment to wear your trays 20 to 22 hours a day. Teens get extras such as compliance indicators, eruption tabs for late-erupting molars and a free replacement allowance for lost trays.

Your treatment: step by step

  1. Consultation and scan (about 45 minutes). We talk about your goals, take a digital 3D scan with no goopy impressions, and show a simulated final result.
  2. Planning (1 to 3 weeks). The lab builds a step-by-step plan, and Dr. Abbas reviews and approves it. Small attachments may be added to your teeth.
  3. Wearing your aligners (about 6 to 18 months). You change trays every 1 to 2 weeks and come in every 6 to 8 weeks for a quick 15-minute check.
  4. Refinement and retainers. A short refinement set may be needed. Then you wear clear retainers at night to keep your results.

Most patients start within 3 weeks of their first scan.

How long will it take?

  • Limited cases (front teeth only): about 6 to 9 months
  • Moderate cases: about 10 to 14 months
  • Comprehensive cases, including bite changes: about 14 to 18 months

Wearing your trays 20 to 22 hours a day keeps you on schedule. Wearing them only 16 to 17 hours can add 3 to 6 months.

Cost, insurance and financing

You get a written, all-in quote at your consultation, covering refinements and retainers. Cost depends on how complex your case is, how many trays you need, one or both arches, and your coverage. Many extended plans cover aligners under orthodontic benefits, often at 50 percent up to a lifetime maximum, and some limit coverage to dependants under 19. We direct-bill major Canadian carriers and run a predetermination with your insurer. The Canada Dental Care Plan does not currently cover orthodontics. We offer 0% in-house financing so the cost is spread over your treatment.

Before Your Visit

  • Tell us what bothers you about your teeth and if you have had braces before.
  • Bring your insurance information so we can check your orthodontic benefits.
  • Let us know about any teeth grinding, gum problems or planned dental work.
  • If you have cavities or gum disease, we will plan to treat them before aligners start.

After Your Treatment

  • Expect tight trays and slight speech changes for the first few days of each new set.
  • Take your aligners out to eat and drink anything except water, and brush before putting them back in.
  • Clean your trays daily and keep them in their case, never in a napkin.
  • Wear your retainers every night, indefinitely, once treatment ends. A set typically lasts 2 to 4 years.
  • Wear a custom sportguard instead of your aligners for contact sports.
  • Keep your cleanings every 6 months, or more often if advised.
