Urgent or emergency: which page is for me?
- Urgent care is for problems that need prompt, planned treatment: root canal pain, a tooth that needs removing, a painful wisdom tooth.
- Emergency care is for sudden problems: a broken or knocked-out tooth, a lost crown or filling, swelling, or severe pain after an injury.

Our urgent dental services
Root canal treatment
Needed when decay or a crack reaches the nerve. Signs include throbbing pain without a trigger, pain when chewing, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, and swelling or tenderness. Without root canal treatment, the risk of losing the tooth goes up. See our root canal treatment page.
Tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal
Wisdom teeth usually come in between ages 17 and 25, and impacted ones are common. We remove a tooth only when imaging and your exam show it is needed. See our wisdom teeth removal page.
What to do when you call

- Tell us where it hurts, when it started, and whether you have swelling or a fever.
- We find the earliest slot. Same-day appointments are often available but not guaranteed.
- We examine you, take focused X-rays, explain your options and give a written estimate before treatment.
Cost, insurance and payment
Fees follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide. Most extended plans cover root canals and extractions in part, and CDCP covers root canal treatment and extractions for eligible patients. We direct-bill Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield and CDCP, and offer 0% in-house payment plans.
Before Your Visit
- Call as early in the day as you can.
- Take over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the label while you wait. Do not put aspirin on the gum.
- Bring your insurance card and a list of medications and allergies.
- Tell us if you have swelling, a fever or trouble swallowing or breathing. If swelling is spreading or you cannot breathe or swallow well, go to the nearest emergency room.
After Your Treatment
- Wait for numbness to wear off before eating. Avoid chewing on the treated side.
- Take pain relief as directed and finish any antibiotics we prescribe.
- Follow the aftercare instructions for your treatment.
- Book the final restoration, such as a crown, if you were advised to.
- Call us if pain gets worse, swelling grows or bleeding does not stop.
